Depends on severity. If it,s just a few here and there, then you can go with insecticidal soap for spot treatment. There are lots of "organic" options available if that's your preference. For more sever, I would go with something stronger. My favorite is Sevin brand insecticide. Hooks up to hose, spray the plant down and your done. Make sure you do it either early in the AM or late after noon when sun is not beating down on it. I have had excellent luck with the Sevin brand. It is not organic though.

I love these plants but the green grasshoppers can schread one in approx 3 days. North of houston I guess with the drought in all the green grasshoppers are leaving the dries fields and attacking this species more than any other hibiscus maybe thgey taste better any sugguestions on the best treatment other than hand to hand combat.

I am planting these in a client's yard (zone 9, central Florida) that wants a butterfly garden. It is a good host plant for butterflies (meaning the caterpillars eat it, not the adults). Plant it with some pentas and butterfly bushes. These are nectar plants for the adult butterflies. Then sit back and enjoy!

No! No! Don't spray them. The caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflys. The butterflys are worth the holes in your vine. See http://jeanniesgarden.blogspot.com/2010/11/tale-of-passion-vine.html
